was born on December 21, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, to the loving embrace of Charles and Reba Richardson, who preceded her in death. La Sonja departed this life on Monday, December 23, 2024 . She was in a devoted and loving relationship with Duane Stephens for over 12 years, who also preceded her in death.
At a young age the Richardson family moved to San Diego Ca where she attended elementary through High School in Spring Valley. Her love for cheerleading began with Pop Warner football that lead to Los Toros then on to High School where was active in ASB, as well as many other sports and spirit activities. Graduating Monte Vista HS in 1985, she went on to attend San Diego City College where she continued cheer leading and achieving her Associate's degree.
With her mother's encouragement, La Sonja realized her dream of becoming a flight attendant, beginning her career with US Airways in 1989. Over the years, she navigated multiple mergers, including the final one with American Airlines, where she proudly served both international and domestic flights for over 35 years.
La Sonja was revered, deeply respected within the community and a devoted member of the SISTERHOOD. Being a founding member of the board since 2008, she contributed to numerous philanthropic endeavors including party planning, brunches and a variety of other functions. She valued spending time with her family and life long friends but never missed a chance to make a new one.
Her favorite pastime was shopping, a hobby that always brought her immense joy. She also loved crafting, cooking, sewing and was very skilled at whatever project she set out to do. With her impeccable style and fashion sense, she boasted an extensive wardrobe, complete with purses, nails, and shoes to match. She was a role model, but also known as: a Diva, a Foodie, THE Black Barbie and she affectionately named herself Black Angel. She was extremely intelligent, beautiful with an infectious smile that would light up the room. Confident and radiant, she was the best friend anyone could have, someone to look up to and admire.
She touched many hearts and leaves behind to cherish her beautiful spirit, her brothers and sisters, Mario Richardson, Abigail Dawson, Riccardo Richardson, Jiles Richardson,Tanya Evans (Preceded in death), La Toshia Richardson and Antonio Roderick. Although she had no children, she had an essential role in raising Trinity Richardson (her special "Girlie"), Samaria Phipps (her beloved "Little Froggie") and Zayda James (her treasured "Little Monkey"). She embraced her 16 nieces and nephews, 24+ great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great nephew as her own. La Sonja's memories will be forever cherished by a host of cousins, extended family members, and other relatives, along with a vast number of SISTERS and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family of La Sonja Richardson would like to thank you for your words of comfort, cards, prayers, plants, food and presence during our time of bereavement. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. The Richardson Family.
