John “David” Hines, born on October 31, 1947 in Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 77, due to complications from Alzheimer’s dementia. He was the beloved son of Jack and Margaret Hines and brother of Charlotte “Libi” Eichbaum.
David graduated from Lincoln High School and then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Oregon. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably for four years. During his time stationed in Tampa, Florida, he met his wife of 51 years, Emma.
David and Emma began their life together in Florida, but after brief stays in Oregon and Pennsylvania, they ended up in Texas, where they have called home for the past 44 years. He began his successful career as a financial auditor with ExxonMobil and earned his Master of Business Administration. As technology advanced, he was at the forefront of learning and implementing new strategies to audit IT Systems. His career brought him many opportunities to travel and work with colleagues all over the world.
David enjoyed walking his dogs, traveling, listening to music, science fiction, all things tech, and Oregon Ducks football, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. David was always up to trying new things, such as golfing, karaoke, boating, or a new cuisine. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, strong work ethic, kindness and generosity to others, and quirky sense of humor.
David is survived by his wife, Emma, and their three daughters, Elissa (Tivis), Christina (Joe), and Melanie, and his sister, Libi. He was a proud grandfather to Ciara (Erick) and Chelsea, and great-grandfather to Ethan.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Ariel (Trevor), Cassidy (Christina), Kathryn (David), and Robert, and several great-nieces and nephews, who all brought immense joy to his life.
His family will hold a private celebration of life over the summer in Big Sur, California - one of his favorite spots on this planet. Cheers to a life well-lived and well-loved. <3
