Jeanne M. Beckett, a beloved math teacher, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, in Cypress, California, with loved ones by her side. Born on April 12, 1945, in Missouri, Jeanne lived a life full of love, laughter, and a passion for teaching that spanned over four decades.
Jeanne dedicated 43 years of her life to education, inspiring countless students, first at La Mirada High School and Anaheim High School, and spending the last 23 years of her career at Oxford Academy in Cypress. She proudly served as Title 1 Coordinator at Anaheim High School, always striving to make math accessible and enjoyable for all her students. Her brilliance shone through not only in her academic credentials, which included a Bachelor's and a Master's degree and her recognition as a National Merit Scholar, but also in her nurturing approach to education.
Beyond the classroom, Jeanne was known for her generous spirit and loving heart. Those who knew her often referred to her as the “Mom” to all, as she touched many lives with her kindness. Jeanne was truly the quintessential Pinterest mom before the platform ever existed—she had an innate ability to think of thoughtful little gestures, often surprising friends and family with handwritten notes, gifts, and thoughtful reminders on special occasions.
Jeanne's cherished memories revolve around her family. She loved spending time with her husband, Vernon Beckett, with whom she shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they embarked on countless road trips during summer breaks, driving cross-country, exploring new places, and making lasting memories with family. Jeanne took great joy in mapping out their adventures, making the journeys as memorable as the destinations.
Her grandchildren brought her immense happiness. She loved to spend hours playing card and board games with Brayden, Chloe, and Courtney, and took great pleasure in exploring magical places like Disneyland with them. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the scent of blooming flowers from her garden. A lover of nature, Jeanne found tranquility in gardening and had a special fondness for red roses.
Jeanne also had a creative side; she enjoyed building and refinishing furniture and cabinets in her younger years, allowing her love for craftsmanship to flourish. Throughout her life, she remained mentally active, continuing her teaching career even at the age of 79, a testament to her passion for learning and commitment to her students.
Jeanne is survived by her devoted husband, Vernon Beckett; her loving son, Barry Beckett, and daughter-in-law, Kim Beckett; her beloved daughter, Buffy McDonald, and son-in-law, Chris McDonald; and her cherished grandchildren, Brayden, Chloe, and Courtney. She is also survived by her brother, Penn Moody, and sister, Sally Rush.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Myra Moody, and Sister June Whedon.
The legacy of Jeanne M. Beckett lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her spirit will be forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
A Celebration of Life honoring Jeanne will be held at Oxford Academy in Cypress on April 21 from 3:45 to 4:45 PM. In tribute to her love of spring, guests are invited to wear floral or brightly colored attire. During the event, we will dedicate a rose garden and memorial bench in her name—a lasting tribute for students and staff to reflect on her incredible legacy.
