Jami Ann Kleinschmidt

Jami Ann Kleinschmidt, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, attorney, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2026. Born on September 12, 1976, in Langdon, North Dakota, Jami was the firstborn daughter of Mike and Jan Kleinschmidt.

From an early age, Jami displayed the spirited independence and determination that would define her life. As a young child, she delighted her family with her bright smile and photogenic personality, often serving as the willing model for her aunts’ cameras and creative outfits.

Jami attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School through eighth grade before continuing her education at Langdon High School, where she graduated in 1995. A gifted student and athlete, she was active in speech and basketball. Many childhood memories were made on the family farm, where countless evenings were spent shooting hoops with her father and sisters. Family lore recalls that no one could come inside for the night until their father managed at least one victory.

Growing up on the farm also fostered Jami’s adventurous spirit. She learned to drive at a young age while helping her father with haying operations, navigating pickup trucks through fields long before she was tall enough to fully see over the steering wheel. After earning her driver’s license, she proudly took ownership of her first car, a Geo Spectrum with a manual transmission, quickly mastering the challenges of driving a stick shift—much to the amusement of her sisters.

Following high school, Jami enrolled at the University of North Dakota, embarking on the educational journey that would lead to a distinguished legal career. During her time at UND, she became a member of Gamma Phi Beta and spent the 1998–1999 academic year studying abroad at the University of Regensburg in Germany. There she expanded her love of travel, culture, and language while exploring Europe. She graduated from UND in 2000, earning bachelor’s degrees in Political Science, International Studies, and German.

Jami then attended Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 2004. The day after graduation, she packed her car and headed west to San Diego, California—a city that quickly became her lifelong home.

San Diego captured Jami’s heart. She loved the ocean, the sunshine, and the vibrant community she found there. Whether walking along the Ocean Beach Pier, enjoying the city’s diverse restaurants, or sharing her favorite local destinations with visiting friends and family, Jami embraced all that Southern California had to offer. She became known as an exceptional hostess and tour guide, always ready with recommendations for dining, entertainment, and exploration. As a longtime member of the San Diego Zoo, she often spent her free time enjoying one of her favorite places in the city.

Professionally, Jami built a respected career as an attorney. After beginning as a law clerk while preparing for the California Bar Exam, she worked in several litigation practices, including construction defect litigation. In 2016, she fulfilled a longtime goal by founding the Kleinschmidt Law Firm, where she served clients with dedication, integrity, and compassion.

Her visits back to the Midwest may have been infrequent, but they were cherished by those who knew her best. Jami always wished for a Minnesota Vikings Super Bowl victory in her lifetime and continued to follow UND hockey.

Jami is survived by her parents, Mike and Jan Kleinschmidt, who divide their time between The Villages, Florida, and their lake home near New York Mills, Minnesota; her sister, Tami Snyder, and husband Ted of Crystal, Minnesota, and their son, TJ; and her sister, Sara Kleinschmidt Miller, and husband Jeff of Eagan, Minnesota. Jami is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

Jami will be remembered for her intelligence, determination, generosity, and adventurous spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
