Deborah Ann FrankByrom

Deborah Ann FrankByrom, aged 81, peacefully passed away on July 9, 2025, surrounded by the love and warmth of her beloved family. Born on April 23, 1944, in Newport, Arkansas, Deborah's early years were filled with the adventure and uncertainty that come from being part of a military family. Following the untimely death of her father, Lieutenant Colonel Herbert W. Kent, she and her mother settled in San Diego, California, in 1951, where she would ultimately flourish.

Deborah graduated from Point Loma High School in 1962 and embarked on a distinguished career as a medical transcriptionist that spanned over 45 years. She began her professional journey under the guidance of her beloved stepfather, Dr. Harold J. Frank, before dedicating over 25 years to the field of Audiology at UCSD Medical Center, concluding her career in occupational medicine with Sharp Rees-Stealy. Through her work, she embodied commitment and diligence, always striving to provide the utmost care through her skillful contributions.

A vibrant spirit, Deborah lived life with remarkable resilience and a profound love for her family. During her adult life in Ocean Beach, she devoted herself to raising her five children and embraced the joys of life on the water, whether sailing or swimming. A fierce competitor on the softball field, she claimed numerous championships and reveled in the thrill of participating in “Over-The-Line” tournaments. Family vacations to Lake Tahoe and Hawaii were treasured traditions that filled her heart with cherished memories while capturing moments of togetherness.

Her adoration for Hawaii blossomed throughout her 40-year marriage to her late husband, Lee. Their anniversaries marked years of joy, and in the decade following his passing, their tradition continued, as she shared annual journeys with her children, grandchildren, and dear friends. In her later years, she discovered a passion for travel, embarking on epic adventures around the globe, with her youngest child, Kerri, as her favorite companion. Together, they created unforgettable memories in destinations such as Italy, Ireland, Scotland, France, England, and Mexico. An avid reader, she was never without a book in her purse, reflecting her love for stories and adventure. She was a regular at Bali Hai Restaurant, a haven where friendships blossomed and the staff became family, all enriched by her infectious laughter and warm presence.

Deborah’s legacy will shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Her love and loyalty were boundless, her independence fierce, her strength undeniable, and her generosity unparalleled. She will be profoundly missed, especially by her cherished children—Joseph Arnold, Cuppy Arnold, James Harrell, Katharine Byrom, and Kerri Byrom-Knutzen (and her husband, Walter)—along with her nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is lovingly remembered as the devoted wife of her late husband, Lee K. Byrom.

A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on August 16, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bali Hai Restaurant
